Your account has been disabled for one of two reasons. If your account hasn't been used for atleast 3 months then it will be made inactive due to lack of use. You can contact support@bluebottle.com to have the account made active again. The only other reason we disable accounts is for abuse, whether it be phishing, spamming, keylogging etc. If your account has been disabled for one of these reasons don't bother contacting us.
This occurs if you try to retrieve a password for a disabled account, see above for more details.
First try using the webmail password retrieval. If you try to login to webmail unsuccessfully you will be prompted to have your password sent to you.

If password retrieval fails, send an email to support@bluebottle.com stating you cannot login and what your Bluebottle account name is.
Check your 'Pending' folder for the missing emails. This is only possible using Webmail or IMAP.
When signing up, the Bluebottle system reserves usernames after checking to see whether they are available, to prevent two people from signing up with the same username at the same time. This username will be remain reserved until your session timesout, so just wait for the sessions to timeout and you will be able to signup using the username.
Yes.
If you create a Free account and do not login for a week, or you do not login to a Free account for 90+ days, it will be closed. If your account has been closed for inactivity and you want it opened, send an email to support@bluebottle.com and tell us which account you want reactivated.
Check your email configuration and ensure that it uses the following settings:
  1. Outgoing SMTP Server: mail.bluebottle.com
  2. Make sure your username is 'username@bluebottle.com' not just 'username'.

  3. Tick the box that says .Outgoing server requires username/password authentication.

  4. SMTP should be port 25, 26 or 587 (some ISP's block port 25).

You cannot.
The Pending folder is only accessible via Webmail or by upgrading to an Access or Premium account (which have IMAP access).
Login to webmail and click 'Setup' -> 'Advanced Options', then select 'Do not show my Bluebottle email address in verification request messages' and click 'Save'.
Send an email to support@bluebottle.com from the account you want closed and state that you want it closed.
Please follow this link: http://www.bluebottle.com/renew.php
In web mail, your address book is actually your allowed list. To update or edit your allowed list, click on the "Permissions" icon at the top of the page when logged into web mail. Once in the "Permissions" page, click on "Allowed".
Not currently, but we're planning to provide access to more Webmail accounts. Please contact Bluebottle at support@bluebottle.com and tell us which services you would like us to support.
Yes, however it requires a Premium account.
No. Bluebottle only checks your email for viruses. Viruses can be downloaded via websites, instant messaging and file transfers. For your protection, you should still use your desktop anti-virus software.
To ensure you keep receiving them and don't miss an issue, you can manually add the address or domain of the newsletter to your Allowed Sender list.
This is probably because Bluebottle accepts email from null senders to remain compliant with Internet standards. You can avoid this happening by visiting the Advanced Options under Options and selecting "Do not accept email from ". Compliance with the standard will be maintained with this option selected, as long as you use Bluebottle for both your inbound and outbound server.
Most issues will have already been addressed in Bluebottle's frequently asked questions (FAQs) or within existing threads. It is also possible to post a specific question which Bluebottle representatives or the community will endeavour to answer in a timely manner. When making a support request, please specify whether your problem is in web mail, or an email client.

Alternatively, you can email support@bluebottle.com for support assistance.

Sign-up. Bluebottle will ask you to enter your email address and password for the accounts you'd like Bluebottle to protect. You are then able to access your legitimate email at Bluebottle's site, or via POP by making a simple change to the server settings in your email client.

The Trusted Delivery email authentication brings the trust back into email communication. Customers only receive the email they want to receive. If you send an email to your customer, you know that it will be delivered. If others claiming to be you send email to your customers, they will be blocked.

Stop spoofing. Put an end to Spam and Phishing. Trusted Delivery puts a stop to email spoofing by providing secure authentication of senders of email.

The ability to spoof is the reason spam and phishing are seriously affecting email as an effective communication channel. How can Trusted Delivery protect you?

The authentication process is very simple:

  1. Businesses register their domain/s with Trusted Delivery;
  2. Businesses add Trusted Delivery software to their email server;
  3. Server adds a unique Trusted Delivery header to outbound mail;
  4. Recipient's email client plugin performs a query against the Trusted Delivery Authentication Server to determine the following:

Was the email sent from a domain protected by Trusted Delivery?

If no , deliver the email and display it as 'Not Validated'.
If yes , does the email have a unique Trusted Delivery header?
If no , delete the email or display it as 'Not Trusted'.
If yes , query the sending server to authenticate its legitimacy.
If illegitimate , delete the email or display it as 'Not Trusted'.
If legitimate , deliver the email and display it as 'Trusted'. Trusted Delivery is the solution, which closes the loop in e-mail communication; set to re-establish trust and confidence in commercial and personal emails that are sensitive and/or confidential in nature.

Signup for a Bluebottle account and get spam free email can be displayed on your website by using the following code:

The statistics on the left hand side are generated from you accessing Bluebottle via the web. If you use a mail client such as Outlook via POP3 or IMAP, then these email messages will not be tracked.

Applicable to: Access and Premium users.
Please send the complete header information of the spam message to support@bluebottle.com so they can investigate the precise cause. To view the header information in webmail, click on the email in question and then click on 'Source'. The header information is everything before the body of the message begins.
These icons are part of the Trusted Delivery verification process and they have the following meanings:

TRUSTED email states that the sender of this email is categorically who they say they are.

NOT TRUSTED email is from domains protected by Trusted Delivery which have been spoofed and are likely to be fraudulent.

NOT VALIDATED email is from domains NOT protected by Trusted Delivery and will be subject to Bluebottle's verification process (if enabled).

When using POP3, mail is delivered to Bluebottle servers, the users email client then downloads these messages to their own hard drive and the messages are deleted from Bluebottle's servers. From this point on all mail processing is done on the users machine. This has the following advantage:

  • Minimal use of connect time; an issue if you pay by the minute.
  • Slightly easier to configure in some mail clients.

When using IMAP all mail is stored on Bluebottle servers. The users email client then connects to the server and allows the user to view, send and manipulate all their emails, however when using IMAP mail is not downloaded to the users computer and deleted from the Bluebottle's servers. This is useful for the following reasons:

  • Access to your inbox from any location on the network
  • Access to your inbox from different computers
  • Access to all the folders viewable in webmail.

This is particularily useful because it means you can view your Pending folder while using an email client.

  • Faster start-up time, as only message headings are transferred initially
  • Optimization for low-speed links
  • Ability to handle very large messages (e.g., MIME messages)
  • Ability to fetch individual MIME attachments
  • Ability to access non-email information (e.g., Netnews)
When setting up filters you may select to have the filters applied on login or only when you press the filter button. If you want them to be automatic select 'as soon as I login'.
This is caused by your browsers popup blocker. There are 2 ways to solve this problem. Either you can turn disable your browsers popup blocking or you can set Bluebottle webmail to compose messages in the main window. If you want messages to be composed in the main window click on 'Options' -> 'Message Composition' and then uncheck 'Compose messages in a separate window?'.

Bluebottle's Alias feature lets Premium users create up to 5 different addresses that are linked to your email account. Email sent to these aliases will be delivered to the inbox of the parent account.

It is simply a matter of logging into your webmail clicking on 'Setup' -> 'Alias Management' and then entering the Alias names you desire.

Bluebottle's verification system accepts email ONLY from known senders. When Bluebottle receives an email from an address or domain not on your 'Allowed' list, a verification request is sent asking the sender to verify themselves in one of two ways. The first requires the sender to simply reply to the verification request. An alternative method requires the sender to reply with your full name to ensure the sender knows with whom he or she is communicating. It's your choice which method you use. Responding successfully to a verification request automatically places the sender's address on your 'Allowed' list. Once the sender's address is on this list, they can email you as they normally would. The advantage is that you receive email ONLY from allowed senders.
This is the list of addresses (or domains) that have been verified as legitimate. Addresses can be added to this list either manually, by selecting to automatically add a recipient's address when sending email, or by the sender responding to a verification request. Addresses can be easily removed from your list.
This is the list of addresses (or domains) from which you will not receive email. Senders can only be added manually by you. Emails received from addresses on this list are deleted instantly without a request for verification being sent. Addresses can be easily removed from your list.
This is email that has been sent to you, but is not from a sender on your Allowed Sender list. It is currently being blocked from entering Bluebottle's network as it is pending verification. You can move any of these addresses to your Allowed Sender list. Pending emails which are not successfully verified, or placed on your Allowed Sender list will be removed after 7 days.
Please use our automatic password retrieval. If you try to login to webmail unsuccessfully you will be prompted to have your password sent to you. Click on the 'Forgotten your Password' link, enter your Bluebottle email address, click submit, and your password will be sent to your alternate account.

This message occurs when you have tried to send more mail in a 24 hour period than your sending quota allows. Freemail accounts are limited to sending 50 emails a day for the first week. After the first week, Freemail accounts are allowed 100 emails/day. Access accounts have a sending quota of 200 emails a day as soon as they are created. Premium accounts allow 500 emails/day from creation. Note that the quota occurs over a rolling 24 hour period.
This occurs if you sent 1 email to more than 50 recipients. 1 recipient is equal to 1 email.
This message is related to outbound (SMTP) mail and is returned in one of the following situations: * For Bluebottle Freemail and Bluebottle Access users where the From address in the email message (either in the SMTP envelope or in the From header of the mail message) does not match the authenticated account name; or * For Bluebottle Premium users where an attempt is made to send using a Bluebottle address other than their authenticated account name or any of the email aliases associated with the user account. As such, it would be worthwhile checking the configuration of your mail client to ensure that you are not trying to send with an alternate email address.
This message is displayed if you have tried to send a message that is larger than your type of account allows. Freemail users can send emails up to 10MB in size, Access users can send emails 20MB in size and Premium users can send emails 30MB in size.

Trusted Delivery Options

The Trusted Delivery Options allows each user to decide how mail that has been marked 'Not Trusted' is handled. These options are accesible by clicking the 'Permissions' icon at the top of the screen.

The following options are available:

  • Delete Not Trusted email
  • Deliver Not Trusted email to my pending folder (No verification request will be sent.)

You can read any message in your Pending folder by clicking on the emails Subject.

If you wish to have an email in your Pending folder delivered to your Inbox and add the sender to your Allowed Senders list, select the checkbox next to the email and click 'Allow'. To delete an email in your Pending folder select the checkbox next to the email and click 'Delete'.

This is where you decide how Bluebottles challange-response verification system will behave. There are 4 options to choose from:

  1. 'Reply Only' - Requires the sender whose address is not in your Allowed list to simply reply to the verification request. Doing so will automatically add their email address to your Allowed list.

  2. 'Full Name' - Requires the sender whose address is not in your Allowed list to reply to the verification request including your full name in the subject line. Doing so will automatically add their email address to your Allowed list.

  3. 'Disabled' - Disable all verification requests (Not recommended). All email sent to your email address will be delivered to your mailbox without the issue of a verification request. ***Disabling Verification also disables your Blocked and Allowed lists.***

  4. Verification Key - This feature allows the selection of a four digit PIN which a sender can add to the subject line to automatically add their address to your Allowed list. The sender will need to include the number within parentheses - For example, if your Verification Key was 3193, this should be entered into the subject line as (3193).

The Folder Navigator page displays the top level list of folders by default. You can view all level folders by clicking 'Expand All'. 'Collapse All' has the reverse effect and closes all non top level folders.

If you wish to create a top level folder, select 'Create Folder' from the 'Choose Action' dropdown menu. If you wish to make a sub directory simply check the box next to the desired top folder and then select 'Create Folder'.

All other functions of the 'Choose Action' dropdown menu require you to select the checkbox next to a folder first.

From here you can search for the senders, recipients, subjects and message bodies. It is also possible to search certain date ranges as defined by the user.

In the 'Message Flags' box, you can determine which messages are searched based on whether they are new, important, Answered or Deleted. The 'Message Folders' box allows you to choose which mail folders are searched and which are not.

Login to your webmail account and click on 'Options' -> 'External Mail'. Now you must select what type of account you wish to setup, POP3 or IMAP. Then enter the external mail server address and your username and password for that account. After the previous step all thats left is to select 'Active' and choose whether you want to leave mail on the external server or download it to Bluebottle's servers. Press save and setup is complete.
  • POP/IMAP Server (Incoming): mail.bluebottle.com
  • SMTP Server (Outgoing): mail.bluebottle.com
  • SMTP should be port 25, 26 or 587
  • POP3 should be port 110, using SSL 995
  • IMAP should be port 143, using SSL 993

Outgoing server requires username/password authentication. Also make sure your username is 'username@bluebottle.com' not just 'username'. We suggest using SMTP port 587 or 26, as many ISP's will block the use of port 25.

Bluebottle customers can enjoy the full benefits of SSL security via IMAP, POP, SMTP and WWW.

If you have a Freemail account and you use SSL to login, your web browser may display a pop-up message stating that information is "insecure" or could be "intercepted by third-parties". Please note that all your information is encrypted using our high-grade 256-bit SSL certificate; it's only the Google advertising (displayed on the web page) that is unencrypted.

In addition to providing access to your email through a webmail environment, Bluebottle allows you to use email software such Outlook Express or Netscape. To access your email via POP3 or IMAP, please use set-up instructions:

  • Outlook -- PDF (400kb)
  • Outlook Express -- PDF (300kb)
  • Thunderbird/Netscape -- PDF (270kb)

Important - Bluebottle servers must be used for both your inbound and outbound email. Outbound email also requires that you have SMTP authentication enabled within your email client. If Bluebottle is checking your external mail, you must remove direct checking of the original account from your email client.
