What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?

Pop3

With POP3 email is first delivered to Bluebottle's servers. Your email client (e.g. Outlook Express) then downloads these messages and stores them on your computer (unless you choose to leave the emails on the servers).

Some of the advantages of POP3 are:

• It’s easier to set up on your computer
• You can read email messages when you are not connected to the Internet

IMAP

IMAP allows you to synchronise your email between your email client or device and Bluebottle's servers. For example, when you delete an email using your email client the email will also be deleted from Bluebottle's webmail environment.

There are number of advantages of using IMAP, specifically you can:

• Access your email from anywhere there is an Internet connection
• Use different computers (Internet café’s, wireless hotspots etc..) and devices
• Access your Bluebottle pending folder
